Razer Gold gift cards: the vocabulary, the region rule and the US limits

Five terms to know first

Razer Gold
Razer's virtual credits for games and entertainment, held in a Razer Gold wallet tied to your Razer account.
Razer Gold PIN
A 16-digit prepaid code, sold as a gift card or printed on a receipt, that reloads a Razer Gold wallet.
Razer Gift Card (US)
Razer's US gift card. It can reload Razer Gold, or pay for gear on Razer.com and in US RazerStores.
Direct Top Up
Buying a participating game's credits on that game's website. Razer says PINs can be used this way as well as for wallet reloads.
Razer Silver
Free loyalty credits Razer awards on Razer Gold purchases. They expire, and aren't worth any currency amount.

How to reload Razer Gold with a card

Both card types end up in the same wallet; only the menu label differs.

Can a US Razer Gold card be used in another country?

Only in a wallet that already runs in US dollars. Four rules from Razer's own pages decide it:

  1. One currency per wallet. The general terms say a Razer Gold account can only hold one currency and can't be transferred.
  2. Same-region reloads. Razer's PIN page says PINs reload Razer Gold wallets in the same region they were purchased from.
  3. Some places have no wallet. Razer lists the European Economic Area, Bolivia, Guatemala, Peru and South Korea as locations with no Razer Gold wallet.
  4. No proxies. Using an anonymizing proxy to disguise where you live — including to redeem in a currency that isn't yours — is a restricted activity that can get the account suspended.

So for a friend abroad, ask what currency their Razer Gold wallet uses before you buy. The US gift card itself says it is valid in the United States only. If you reward players in several countries, the same mismatch shows up in any program — see bulk gift cards for employees.

US account limits

Razer's location-specific terms for the USA (they apply if you live there or your wallet is in USD) set these limits:

LimitUS / USD wallet
Hold limit, basic accountUS$350
Hold limit, premium accountUS$600
Daily transaction limit (reloads + spending combined)US$2,000, resetting at 00:00 Pacific Time

A reload that would take you over the hold limit is declined, so a basic account can't take three US$100 cards on top of a US$100 balance — spend some first.

Expiry and fees: the US terms are different

This is where most online advice goes wrong, because Razer's general terms and its US terms disagree — and the US terms win for US users.

US location terms

  • Razer Gold PIN codes do not expire
  • Razer Gold credited from those PINs doesn't expire either
  • No inactivity or service fees on PIN codes

General terms (other locations)

  • PINs and their Razer Gold must be used within one year of purchase
  • Inactive fee after a year without transactions, then a yearly dormant fee (USD 2 and USD 1 in the fee table)
  • Location terms override these where they differ

Two clocks apply everywhere: bonus Razer Gold from promotions expires one calendar month after the end of the month it was awarded, and Razer Silver expires twelve calendar months after the end of the month it was awarded. All Razer Gold transactions are final and non-refundable except where the law requires.

What Razer Gold can and can't pay for

  • Can: game credits and content from Razer's participating merchants — Razer lists them at gold.razer.com and says Razer Gold works in over 42,000 games and entertainment titles. The US Razer Gift Card can also buy Razer hardware on Razer.com and in US RazerStores.
  • Can't: cash, transfers to other accounts, or games that aren't on Razer's merchant list. Check the list for the exact game before you buy; if it isn't there, a platform card such as a Steam Wallet card or an Xbox gift card may suit better.

Teens and parents

Razer Gold has no separate child accounts in its terms. Instead, users confirm they are at the age of majority where they live, or that they are an adult consenting for their minor dependents to use the service. In practice, a parent should own the account, hold the login and approve each reload. The dashboard keeps two months of transaction history to review.

Razer Gold FAQ

Does a US Razer Gold card work in Europe?

Razer lists the European Economic Area among locations with no Razer Gold wallet, and a US card is for USD wallets. Check with Razer before buying for anyone there.

Do I need a premium account?

Only if you want to hold more than US$350 at once — the premium hold limit is US$600. The daily US$2,000 transaction limit is the same for both.

Can I check a PIN's balance?

Razer's terms say you can check a PIN's balance at gold.razer.com. Our balance guide covers the wallet itself.

How is a digital card delivered?

As a code by email. When the Rewordin Store opens, US Razer Gold codes will arrive the same way.
